Mumbai---The MPJ’s Mira Bhayander unit organized a public awareness
programme on “NATIONAL HEALTH MISSION” here on Sunday, 17th January
2016. The basic objective of the programme was to disseminate important
information about Government of India’s National Health Mission. Mr. Ravi
Duggal addressed and detailed the gathering regarding vital provisions made
under this dream project of the Government. Mr. Duggal is well known expert in
the Health Activism field today. He is currently holding the position of “Country
Coordinator of International Budgeting” with Jan Swasthy Abhiyan. He is a former
Director of Cehat. While speaking on health policy of the Indian Government, he
said that, UPA 1& UPA2 Governments increased health budget substantially
from 0.8% GDP to 2% of GDP as developed nations spend 5-6% of GDP. But, he told
the people attending the programme that, the present Centre’s NDA Government has cut the planned
budget of 12th five year plan with the dilution of planning commission and NDA has left it on
states.
He also informed people that, the Maharashtra Government spends only 0.5%
of GDP on health, which comes to Rs. 700 per person only. While, the relatively
weaker economies like Goa, Pondicherry, Mizoram and Sikkim spend Rs. 3000 per
person. He urged government to increasing spending on health.
